Once Around th'Block
This twelve page meander booklet is the result of a letterpress workshop utilizing wood and metal type. It was a collaborative effort between thirteen graphic designers who each contributed one hand set page to the booklet. Each designer selected an “O” to start off the phrase “Once upon a time” and then finished it however they saw fit to create a charming and whimsical story. After laying out each design, the text blocks were printed via letterpress on a hand cranked Vandercook SP15 and automatic Universal III. The designers each cast their own names out of lead on an Intertype C4 which were used to create the colophon at the end of the booklet. The printed sheet was hand torn methodically to form the meander booklet which is encompassed in a handcrafted outside cover.
